As a boutique hotel in Vancouver, the staff at the Victorian Hotel knows that Vancouverites take the holidays seriously. There’s an endless parade of seasonal events (with extra-magic sprinkles) whenever December rolls around. And guests staying at the centrally-located Vancouver hotel have access to a veritable smorgasbord of activities. Here are just a few seasonal favourites.

Vancouver Christmas Market

Running until Dec 24, this German-style Christmas Market is not to be missed. Delicious German treats, performances on a flying stage, trivia nights, and tons of vendors ensure that you’ll have a grand day out. The fun takes place down by Canada Place, and the price ranges from $5 to $50, depending on what you plan to do there.

Robson Square Ice Skating

Right next to the Vancouver Art Gallery is the Ice Rink at Robson Square, an adorable and festive rink for all ages. Admission is free, and skate rentals are available for a small fee.

Holiday Lights Walking Tours

On December 5, 13, and 20, you can join a free Holiday Lights Walking Tour of downtown Vancouver, taking in the beautiful light displays, including the St. Paul’s Hospital Lights of Hope. Walkers can also enjoy complimentary hot beverages from Trees Organic. Walks take place from 4:30pm to 6:00pm, and registration is required.

Winter Farmer’s Market

Nat Bailey and Hastings Park Farmers Markets are still open on weekends during the winter season. Buy fresh local produce for some cozy cooking or holiday baking. Local artisans and vendors keep things festive, with hot drink food trucks around for those crisp mornings. These take place either in Hastings Park or on 4601 Ontario Street on weekends between 10am and 2pm, and are free!

Vancouver Chinese Lantern Festival

From Dec 15 to Jan 21, you can enjoy Chinese culture in a winter atmosphere at the Vancouver Chinese Lantern Festival! The festival runs for five weeks and has everything from breathtaking lanterns, acrobatic performances, food trucks, storytelling, and a marketplace. The festival is held at the PNE and costs $19 for adults ($13.40 for children).

Once you’re done exploring Vancouver’s wintery wonderland, keep the holiday spirit kindling back at the Victorian Hotel. Luxurious pillowtop mattresses are ready to embrace you with comfort as you check out the flat panel TVs. And in the morning, the aptly names Healthy Start breakfast provides the get up and go you need to do it all again.
