Signs of Spring, from our hotel in Downtown Vancouver BC
Fuzzy buds are swelling on the magnolia. The snow is gone, and there’s a general feeling of goodwill in the air. As a boutique hotel in the heart of downtown Vancouver, spring enthusiasts visiting the Victorian Hotel will have ample opportunity to witness how this lovely season unfolds in the city.
There’s little doubt that Vancouver’s many natural charms are best enjoyed in the spring. While 2016 brought unusual amounts of snow and grump to the city, Wiarton Willie’s prediction was mostly on the mark as delicately blooming snowdrops gradually replaced the melting drifts under the bare branches of the tree-lined sidewalks.
5 Signs of Spring
5) The green city greens up
For the tourists out and about, the Stanley Park Seawall offers spectacular waterfront vistas bordered by dense, deep forests. Just five minutes away from the Victorian Hotel by bus, spring lovers will be treated to colourful crocuses, tulips, and Easter lilies. There’s even been rumoured sightings of Vancouver’s famous cherry blossoms.
4) Yoga classes ahoy
As the home of the world famous Lululemon (visit their store on Robson and Burrard), there’s no doubt that Vancouver is a yoga city. As the smoothie-clutching crowds trot up and down the streets in their slinky yoga wear, watch for outdoor yoga sessions in areas like George Wainborn Park in nearby Yaletown. If there’s time, use one of the hotel’s complimentary Internet stations and book yourself a session.
3) Starbucks has new cups
With Seattle just across the water, Vancouver has wholeheartedly embraced coffee culture. There are many wonderful cafés and bakeshops all around the Victorian Hotel—and Starbucks remains one of the most prevalent. To celebrate the season, keep an eye out for their new spring-inspired cup, which features an adorable bunny on a fresh field of green.
2) Cyclist sightings
Vancouver is well known for its bike lanes, which afford ample opportunities for the physically fit to take in the city’s natural wonder. In the spring, all the trails crisscrossing the city mean the number of cyclists on the road is rapidly increasing. Rent a bicycle and join the locals for a scenic tour all around the gorgeous waterfront of the downtown core—just be mindful of those crosswalks and intersections!
1) Instagram moments
With longer evenings and clear skies, Instagrammers will be compelled to capture how the glorious mountain diorama frames the windswept beaches and unfurling ocean. English Bay, just a five-minute bus ride from the hotel, is an excellent spot to capture a few choice clicks. There are also many eateries, cafés, and shops where visitors can wile away an enjoyable afternoon.
Vancouver is a beautiful place to visit, and there is a lot to do and see when spring arrives.
